GRAND TERRACE, Calif. – Five men; three from San Bernardino, one from Loma Linda, and one from Rialto were arrested for collecting money for fake funeral.
Authorities said that on June 26, 2019, at around 3:00 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Barton Road and Mt. Vernon Avenue for “aggressive panhandlers”. When they arrived they found the suspects holding large signs with a picture of an infant male, stating that they were collecting funds for his funeral.
Central Station deputies determined that the baby in the picture was not deceased. The suspects, Larry Padilla, 21, of San Bernardino, Francisco Saldana, 21, of San Bernardino, Adrian Martinez, 22, of San Bernardino, Tero Weston, 28, of Loma Linda, and Sergio Vidaca, 32, of Rialto, were allegedly collecting money from passing motorists who wanted to assist in donating toward the funeral. The suspects collected around $500, which was seized by deputies.
