SARASOTA, Fl. – A Florida nanny was arrested after physically abusing an infant and toddler authorities said.
Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office detectives said that the parents reported that their two children left in the care of their nanny had multiple bruises on Friday, April 5, 2019. An investigation was launched after the information was received about the possible abuse to the 8-month-old and 2-year-old child. The parents said that the Nanny, Sarai Rivera, 25, regularly babysits for them, but this time when they returned both children were bruised up.
A forensic exam confirmed that the bruising was consistent with grabbing and pinching. Rivera admitted to detectives that she grabbed the 8-month-old girl by the chin and whipped her with a towel in the face twice to get her to stop crying. She also said that the injuries to the 2-year-old boy may have been from pinching or from “sucking on his neck too hard”. She also told authorities that she was intoxicated when the abuse took place.
Rivera was arrested on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, and remains in jail for two counts of Child Abuse.
