FONTANA – A 21-year-old Fontana man was arrested for the robbery of a 61-year-old disabled woman on Sunday evening. At around 7:44 p.m. authorities said that the woman in a wheelchair was traveling on the sidewalk in the area of Mango and Upland Avenues in the City of Fontana. Her electric wheelchair had a malfunction leaving her stranded. The woman called for help from her family, but before they could arrive, Enrique Miramontes, approached her from behind.
Miramontes callously pushed the woman forward, shoving her head into the handlebar area of the wheelchair. He then took her wallet, which was placed in a basket attached to the wheelchair. He fled east on Owen Street. Witnesses chased after Miramontes, and two caught him and held him until officers arrived. He was taken into custody. One of the two who caught him was bitten on his hand while trying to detain him.
He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center for robbery. The victim got her wallet with all her property still inside. The two who chased and caught the suspect said they got involved because it was the right thing to do.
