FONTANA – A 21-year-old Fontana man was arrested for stabbing his 61-year-old grandfather after an argument on Monday evening.
At around 7:28 p.m. Fontana police were dispatched to a home in the 8900 block of Pepper Avenue in the City of Fontana for the report of the stabbing. Police learned that during an argument, Anthony Hernandez stabbed and slashed his grandfather 20 times in the face and head. The victim fled for help and was rushed to Kaiser Fontana for treatment.
Hernandez fled to a neighbor’s home and with the bloody knife in hand, asked to come inside. When he got inside, he told the family that he had just stabbed his grandfather to death and refused to let the family leave or use the phone. Officers learned where Hernandez was at and made contact with him at the front door. Hernandez was arrested without incident.
No one inside the home was injured and the victim is expected to survive severe facial trauma and disfigurement. Hernandez is booked at the West Valley Detention Center for Attempted Murder and False Imprisonment. He is being held in lieu of $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear at Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on Wednesday morning.
