HESPERIA – With crime on the rise, even more so throughout the summer months, the High Desert residents are being encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Monday, July 10, 2017.
The meeting held by the High Desert Association of Realtors (HDAOR) and the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will educate citizens on how they can arrange to participate in a Neighborhood Watch Informational meeting. The meeting is set to begin at 6:00 a.m. in the Community Room at the Hesperia Police Station, 15840 Smoke Tree Street.
“We’re convinced that the more that people can do to reduce their crime risks the safer they will be, and Neighborhood Watch has proven for over three decades it is one of the most effective ways to keep neighborhoods safe,” said Diane Smith, HDAOR Executive Officer. The Neighborhood Watch Informational meetings began in January 2015 and have continued at locations throughout the High Desert. All of the meetings are open to residents throughout the High Desert, including communities outside of the host location.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics show a spike in burglaries during the summer months with average household burglary rates approximately 11% lower in winter, 9% lower in the spring, and around 6% lower in the fall in comparison with the summer. The most common hours which burglaries take place is between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
