HELENDALE – Holiday fun turned into a terrifying ordeal, leading to sorrow and anguish when a Helendale father of six jumped into the Silver Lakes and never resurfaced.
The small unincorporated community of Helendale/Silver Lakes began their 4th of July celebration on Saturday, July 1, 2017. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Dive Team responded to the location to search for Stevens. After searching for several hours, Kevin Stevens was pulled from the lake unresponsive and he was pronounced dead at on Sunday, July 2, 2017, at 11:58 a.m. The exact circumstances surrounding his death are unknown, the incident remains under investigation.
Stevens was the sole provider for his family of eight, which includes six children ages 3-14-years-old and his wife of 17 years. His wife, Lauren works only part time at a local restaurant and is unable to carry both the emotional and financial burden alone at this time. A Go Fund Me Account has been started in order to help with any needs that may arise as a result of his unexpected death.
