HEMET – A 24-year-old Hemet man was arrested for the attempted murder of a man on the morning of Tuesday, September 13, 2016. At around 9:10 p.m. Hemet police responded to the call reporting a man was shot in the 200 block of West Kimball Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the pelvis.
The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable condition. Surveillance footage in the area of the shooting captured a gold Nissan van leaving the area just after the shooting.
Using the collected information, officers were led to the 400 block of North San Jacinto Street in the City of Hemet. Michael Kaphan was arrested and booked into the Riverside County Jail for attempted murder, use of a firearm and convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Kaphan is being held in lieu of 1,090,000 bail.
