HESPERIA – The City of Hesperia announced the unexpected death of Mayor Russ Blewett, who has served on the City Council for Hesperia since 2010. Mayor Blewett was surrounded by his family as he passed early in the morning of Wednesday, May 23, 2018. City officials said that he was suffering from an unrelated illness at the time of his passing. Hesperia officials described Mayor Blewett as a “committed public servant known for his exemplary work ethic”.
Mayor Blewett has been a resident of San Bernardino County for 35 years and was a longtime resident of the City of Hesperia. “He was first elected to the Hesperia City Council in 2010 and served as Hesperia’s Mayor in 2012 and 2018,” city officials said. Mayor Blewett served on the Baldwin Park City Council in the 1970’s, serving as mayor twice for the City of Baldwin Park. Mayor Blewett if known as an active member of his church and a dedicated family man. Mayor Blewett leaves behind a grieving family, which includes 4 grandchildren and 18 grandchildren.
