HESPERIA – One is dead and a second, who was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries is in unknown condition after a house fire tore through a Hesperia home early Christmas eve.
County Firefighters responded to a fire reported to be behind a Cottonwood Avenue address early Christmas eve. Initially, the fire was reported at 3:00 a.m. as a “possible illegal bonfire”. When firefighters arrived at the home in the 11100 block of Redwood Road, near Appleton Street approximately 5 minutes later they found the single story home with flame in rear patio area of the home and the rear of the structure.
Immediately, they were told by witnesses that occupants were believed to be inside of the home. The rescue was delayed due to a security screen door and the rear portion of the home being fully engulfed. Firefighters forced entry into the home to rescue a man and woman from a rear bedroom at approximately 3:20 a.m. The male and female; both unconscious, were pulled from the front of the home where medics immediately began CPR.
Both were rushed to a local hospital with critical injuries. The male patient later died as a result of his injuries and the current condition of the female, who also was transported in critical condition is unknown. Utilities and a fire investigator were called to the scene. The fire was confirmed under control at 3:27 a.m.
