HESPERIA – A 40-year-old Hesperia man was arrested for the sexual assault of an elderly woman official said.

On Friday, June 29, 2018, deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to a Hesperia home for the report of a rape that had just taken place. When they arrived they located the 69-year-old female victim who was suffering from injuries as a result of the sexual assault and serious blunt force injuries to her body. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and rushed the woman to the hospital. Authorities said that the suspect, later identified as Howard Jenks, gained entry into the home, walked into the sleeping victim’s bedroom and attacked her. Following the attack, Jenks fled from the home.

Evidence was collected from the scene, some of which led to Jenks being named as the suspect in the attack. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s news release, Jenks was known to a family member, which made him familiar with the home and the victim. An arrest warrant was issued for the arrest of Jenks, who was located in a small trailer encampment near Summit Valley Road in an unincorporated area of Hesperia He was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Kidnapping, Rape, and Elder Abuse. Additional evidence was located in a vehicle and Jenks encampment. The woman is expected to recover from her injuries.
