VICTORVILLE – A Hesperia man was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for the November 2011 burglary and rape of a 14-year-old girl.
The sentence was handed down to the Julio Moncada, who was 18-years-old at the time of the burglary and rape on Thursday. Moncada, now 24-years-old, was the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s older sister. When the sister broke up with earlier that year, he began sending her threatening text messages. Moncada denied breaking into the home and raping the teen, but after further questioning, he confessed during questioning.
Moncada was charged with forcible rape of a child and the special allegation that the crime was committed during a burglary. Moncada pleaded no contest to the rape and to breaking into the Hesperia home at night and raped the victim, who he did not know, on January 12, 2018.
“This was a terrible crime – a stranger broke into the victim’s house, entered her room, beat her and raped her,” said Deputy District Attorney David Foy, who prosecuted the case for the Victorville Division’s Family Violence Unit. The victim told authorities that she did not know the suspect, but did recognize him from a Facebook photo as someone who was known to her sister.
