HESPERIA, Ca. – A 67-year-old Hesperia woman on a bicycle lost her life after abruptly turning into the path of a truck, authorities said.
Just after noon on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, deputies from the Hesperia Station and emergency medical personnel responded to the area of Cottonwood Avenue and Yucca Street for the report of a traffic collision. When they arrived they found a 67-year-old woman lying on the ground suffering from fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
Through investigation it was learned that moments before the woman was riding her bicycle north on Cottonwood Avenue and the 1997 Chevrolet Box truck driven by a 20-year-old Victorville man was driving north on Cottonwood Avenue behind her. According to witnesses, the woman made a sudden left-hand turn into the path of the Chevrolet and was broadsided. Her identification is not being released so that her family can first be notified.
The intersection of Cottonwood and Yucca Street were closed for several hours while deputies from the Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) processed the scene.
Anyone with information or anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Deputy D. Holland or Deputy F. Zavala at the Hesperia Station.
