Victorville Boy, 17, Killed in Lucerne Valley Crash

LUCERNE VALLEY – A pickup truck attempting to pass vehicles over double yellow lines is believed to be the cause of a crash that killed two and caused a major injury to one on Thursday morning.

The head-on crash occurred just before 8:30 a.m. in the 44000 block of  Old Woman Springs Road. Preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck was driving eastbound on Old Woman Springs Road just west of Lafon Road.  An SUV was driving westbound when the pickup truck attempted to pass over the double yellow lines, causing the two to collide head-on. The pickup truck overturned and burst into flames. The driver was unable to be pulled from the burning vehicle and died as a result of the collision.

“[I] Was on my way to mom’s and came upon a horrible accident that had just happened,” said Lynn Warren on a public Facebook post.  “People were pulling people out of a car and some trapped in the back,”  Warren said that she also witnessed the second vehicle fully engulfed in flames as motorists were forced to use an alternate route due to the road being blocked by debris and partially by one of the mangled vehicles.

The passenger in the SUV was also found dead on arrival and the driver SUV was airlifted for the treatment of major injuries. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s-Coroner will release the name of the two deceased once they are positively identified and the family is notified.
