LAKE ELSINORE – A 22-year-old man was arrested after a carjacking that led to a police pursuit on Thursday morning. At around 7:10 a.m. Lake Elsinore police responded to the area of Lakeshore Drive and Lindsey Street for the report of a carjacking. When they arrived they learned that at around 7:10 p.m. two men and a woman approached the victim, one of the men with a gun. They demanded that the victim get out of the vehicle and he complied. One of the suspects left in the victim’s vehicle and the other two left in a small dark-colored sedan with tinted windows. The victim was not injured.
At around 4:55 p.m. the same day, the victim located his vehicle near Lakeshore Drive and Poe Street in Lake Elsinore. When officers responded to the scene they noticed the vehicle on Lakeshore Drive and Main Street, occupied by a man. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued on. The officers pursued the vehicle until it ended in a dirt field west of Franklin Street, near Auto Center Drive when the driver, later identified as Alejandro Villegas went off the road and into a large ravine. The driver fled on foot, but was taken into custody moments later.
Villegas was booked into the Southwest Detention Center for possession of the stolen vehicle and evading arrest. The carjacking remains under investigation.
