VICTORVILLE – A 24-year-old Victorville man was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross Bear Valley Road just east of Mall Boulevard on Tuesday evening.
At around 7:47 p.m. Victorville Station deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to the vehicle versus pedestrian collision. According to authorities, the victim was hit by a white pickup truck that was driving westbound on Bear Valley Road. The victim was left lying in the westbound lanes of traffic by the driver who attempted to flee the scene through the Best Buy parking lot. CPR was being administered by civilians in the area until emergency personnel arrived to take over.
Moments later dispatchers received a call reporting that a white pickup truck was screeching its tires and was involved in a verbal altercation in the Best Buy parking lot. Deputies made contact with three individuals, and a female party told deputies that she was driving at the time of the collision. It was later determined that 20-year-old Victorville resident, Benjamin Villasenor was the driver of the vehicle at the time of the collision. Damage consistent with the collision was found on the vehicle. It is unclear if any arrests were made or citations were issued at this time.
The male pedestrian was transported to the Desert Valley Hospital with major life-threatening injuries. The male, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The occupants in the pickup truck were not injured as a result of the collision. It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or speed were a factor in this collision.
Bear Valley Road was closed in both directions from Amargosa Road to Mall Boulevard for several hours while the Sheriff’s Major Investigation Team (MAIT) investigates.
