YUCAIPA – A 21-year-old Yucaipa man was arrested after being suspected of a theft a Yucaipa restaurant Monday afternoon. The theft was reported at the Subway Restaurant located at 31387 Outer Highway 10 just after 3:40 p.m. Based on the suspect description provided by witnesses deputies located the suspect, Aaron Cole a short distance away.
Cole was handcuffed to be transported back to the restaurant. The deputy noticed Cole attempting to remove the handcuffs and tried to reposition them. Cole had already freed one of his hands and while wrestling with the deputy he used the unattached handcuff as a weapon striking the deputy in the face.
Cole was able to escape the deputies grip and fled the scene on foot. Backup deputies followed Cole and caught him as he attempted to re-enter the restaurant. He was taken into custody and booked into the West Valley Detention Center. The deputy sustained minor injuries and was treated at Redlands Community Hospital.
