HIGHLAND – A 27-year-old man was arrested for the armed robbery of a 99 Cent Plus Store in the City of Highland on Sunday.
Shortly before 2:56 p.m. San Bernardino area transient Alejandro Edward Rodriguez went into the store located at 7257 Sterling Avenue and robbed the cashier of an undisclosed amount of cash. Rodriguez ran out of the store and dropped the money while in the store parking lot. Two witnesses followed as Rodriguez ran south on Sterling, and east on Baseline. As he was running, he approached a juvenile, robbing him of his skateboard which he used during his escape.
Ground units from the Highland and Central station as well as a Sheriff’s helicopter responded to the area to search for the suspect. Rodriguez was located in a driveway on the 26100 block of Baseline, where he was taken into custody. The realistic looking gun was learned to be an airsoft handgun. Rodriguez was positively identified as the suspect by both the victim and witnesses and he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center, where is is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
