RIVERSIDE – A 39-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Tuesday morning.

At around 5:30 a.m. the Riverside Police and Fire officials responded to the intersection of Van Buren Boulevard and California Avenue for the report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

Through investigation, officers learned that the silver Honda Civic was traveling north on Van Buren Boulevard when it hit the pedestrian who was in the California Avenue crosswalk. Evidence at the scene indicates that the pedestrian entered the crosswalk against the traffic control device and the Civic, during a green light drove through the intersection.

The collision remains under investigation by the Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT). The pedestrian remains in critical condition. Anyone with information regarding this collision is urged to call Riverside Police Traffic Detective Soria at (951) 826-8720.
