ONTARIO – Driving under the influence is the suspected cause of a fatal collision that killed a 36-year-old San Bernardino man on Sunday morning.
Early Easter morning, Mario Mora-Cuellar was driving a Honda Odyssey van on the I-15 South, south of East Jurupa Street in Ontario when he got a flat tire. He stopped his vehicle in the shoulder area so that he could change a tire at around 5:50 a.m.
He began to change his tire and was stuck by a 2013 Honda Accord, driven 29-year-old Muscoy resident Cesar Velasquez. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials said that for reasons that remain unknown, the Honda Accord veered to the right, crashing into the Honda Odyssey and Mora-Cuellar.
The CHP and Ontario Fire responded and determined the Mora-Cuellar were dead at the scene. Valasquez was booked into jail for vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
