HINKLEY – A well-loved Barstow Jr. High School teacher died as a result of a motorcycle accident on Friday morning. At around 10:36 a.m. the California Highway Patrol responded to the single vehicle motorcycle accident in the area of Santa Fe Avenue and Summerset Road in the unincorporated area of Hinkley.
Through investigation they learned that Ashley Fortenberry (also known as Nicole Earls), 28, of Hinkley was riding westbound on Santa Fe, when she lost control, went onto the right shoulder and was ejected. She was rushed to Barstow Community Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m.
Ashley Fortenberry touched the lives all all she knew, including her past and present employers. “We are devastated by the loss of one of our staff,” said Cari Mauldin the Principal, Lenwood Elementary. “Ashley Nicole Earls was an important part of many of our students’ lives. Our school counselor will be on site Tuesday and Wednesday to help anyone who needs it.”
Ashley leaves behind a young son and daughter who friends said she loved dearly and worked very hard for. She also leaves behind other family, many friends, and students who all adored her.
