HESPERIA – A male motorcyclist was killed after a hit and run traffic collision on Wednesday.
At around 7:50 p.m., Hesperia Station deputies and emergency medical personnel responded to Main Street and Cottonwood Avenue in the CIty of Hesperia for the report of a motorcycle versus vehicle traffic collision. When they arrived they found the severely injured motorcycle rider lying in the roadway near his motorcycle. Witnesses told authorities that the second involved vehicle, described as a white SUV-type vehicle fled the seen West on Main Street following the collision.
Medical personnel attempted to preserve the life of the motorcyclist but he died at the scene as a result of his injuries. An extensive search was conducted to search for the suspect vehicle using a sheriff’s helicopter and ground units. Authorities were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
An investigation was conducted by the Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) leaving the roadway closed from Cottonwood to Maple Avenues until around 1:00 a.m. Deputies learned through investigation that the motorcyclist was driving east on main Street in the #1 lanes on his 2918 Harley Davidson. The white SUV exited the driveway from a business on the corner to enter Main street.
The vehicle pulled directly into the path of the motorcycle, and the rider was unable to avoid the collision. The motorcycle struck the vehicle, and the rider was ejected, suffering fatal injuries. The suspect driver fled the scene with no concern for the rider’s condition immediately following the collision.
Investigators are continuing their investigation to locate the driver and determine the exact cause of the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or witnessed the suspect flee the scene is asked to contact Deputy Dustin Whitson or Sergeant Doug Hubbard at the Hesperia Station.
