Norco Caretaker Arrested for Stealing Thousands from Elderly Client

GRAND TERRACE – A 38-year-old Norco caretaker was arrested after stealing from an elderly woman at a Grand Terrace senior home. Chauntel Dunnigan worked as the caretaker for the woman in the 22000 block of Grand Terrace Road since September 2016. The elderly woman first noticed that two of her personal checks went missing and later found that they were cashed by Dunnigan in her own name. The victim also noticed that approximately $20,000 worth jewelry went missing from her bedroom.

The family reported the thefts to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department on November 11, 2016, and the incident was investigated leading to an arrest and search warrant for Dunnigan. Seven days after the initial report, detectives from the Central Station located Dunnigan leaving her home in the 1300 block of River Drive in the City of Norco. The deputies took her into custody and transported her to the  West Valley Detention Center where she was booked for dependent adult theft, forged check, burglary, and grand theft. She is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

During the search, detectives located some of the missing jewelry as well as a pawn slip. Using the pawn slip, detectives were able to locate additional jewelry and recovered it. Several other pieces of jewelry that did not belong to the same victim were collected from Dunnigan’s home. Authorities believe there may be other victims.
