HIGHLAND – A 27-year-old Chino man was arrested when a search warrant was served at a commercial location located at 25740 East Baseline Street on Tuesday morning. Investigators were at the location several weeks prior and had reason to believe that the location was being used to distribute and sell marijuana and other marijuana products.
During the search, the Highland Police and the Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET) located over 10 pounds of processed marijuana, THC wax, THC oil, marijuana edibles and a large amount of cash officials said. Derek Michael Katata was at the location and was arrested.
A City of Highland Code Enforcement officer found several code violations, making the property unsafe to occupy. City officials were unable to locate any licenses or permits issued by the city. The City of Highland also has an ordinance prohibiting medical marijuana dispensaries, mobile marijuana dispensaries, delivery services, and cultivation of marijuana within the city limits. Evidence collected also suggests that the suspects were not in compliance with the California medical marijuana laws and ordinances.
Investigators continue to seek others involved and plan to submit the case to the District Attorney’s office. The property owner may also face civil and/or criminal charges officials said. Katata was booked into the Central Jail for sales of marijuana. He was released on bail late Tuesday night.
