RIVERSIDE – A cell phone call while driving led to the arrest of a parolee at large who was driving a stolen vehicle on Wednesday.
At around 5:30 p.m. the officer attempted to stop the driver for the use of the cell phone while he was driving near Main and 3rd Streets. The driver ignored the lights and sirens continuing to drive running a red light northbound on Main Street.
The collision ended when the suspect turned into a collision repair shop parking lot hitting two parked vehicles and driving into an open garage bay subsequently striking a wall. Police detained the suspect, conducting a search during which time they located a loaded handgun.
The suspect vehicle was learned to be reported stolen from the City of Ontario. Paramedics at the scene evaluated the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Irvine resident, Dominique Harris. He was then transported to the hospital for medical clearance officials said.
Harris was booked into jail for auto theft, possession of stolen property, felony evading, weapons, drugs and parole violations.
