ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN – In what is being called a possible “honor killing”, Pakistani Social Media star, 26-year-old Qandeel Baloch was strangled in her home sometime Friday evening.
Baloch was known for her pushing-the-limit tactics used to empower other Pakistani women to fight back against the gender inequality in their country. Baloch’s brother, according to CNN reports, strangled Baloch because of the “kind of pictures she had been posting online”.
Baloch, whose real name was Fauzia Azeem went by the alias due to her being in fear for her life. Her father reported her death to the police. No arrest have been made as police do not know her brother’s whereabouts.
Baloch posted a controversial video to her over 42,000 Twitter followers just hours before her death. In Baloch’s last Facebook post to her nearly 750,000 fans was made on Friday morning she called herself a “One Woman Army” and an inspiration to women “treated badly and dominated by society”. She vowed to keep achieving despite the opposition.
