PALMDALE – The 34-year-old Palmdale man, dubbed the “Aqueduct Rapist” was sentenced on Friday to 23 years in prison officials said.
Heriberto D. Romero was sentenced after being found guilty in August of two counts of assault with intent to commit rape and one count each of attempted kidnapping to commit rape, false imprisonment by violence and dissuading a witness from testifying.
Romero was charged for two 2015 sexual assaults, one in January and the following in September of that year. On January 17, 2015 Romero snuck up behind a 20-year-old woman who was jogging at Pelona Vista Park located at 37800 Tierra Subida Avenue in the City of Palmdale. He began to assault with the woman who attempted to call for help using her cell phone which Romero was able to pull from her grasp.
Approximately 8 months later, on the afternoon of September 15, 2015 Romero hid in a bush and jumped out behind a 24-year-old female jogger to sexually assault her.
In addition to the 23 year sentence, Romero is required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
