RIVERSIDE – A male pedestrian sustained major life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon. At around 1:37 p.m. multiple witnesses called 911 to report the collision on Market Street just south of University Avenue. Police and emergency medical personnel arrived to find a 2001 Dodge truck with minor damage and the male pedestrian suffering from major injuries.
Through investigation, police learned that the Dodge was going southbound in the fast lane of market street. The 59-year-old Riverside man was driving 25-30 miles per hour as the male pedestrian crossed from the east side of Market Street outside of the crosswalk as the “Don’t Walk”” signal flashed.
The truck tried to stop to avoid the man, but was unable to. The pedestrian was rushed to Riverside Community Hospital with major injuries. The pedestrian is listed in grave condition authorities said. The collision remains under investigation by the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
