PHELAN – North Hollywood resident, Edward Abarca, 35, was arrested after kidnapping his ex-girlfriend and an 11-year-old child authorities said.
On Sunday afternoon, Abarca met with his ex-girlfriend to exchange property, he choked her and drug her by the hair into his vehicle. Demanding her to disclose her current address, Abarca threatened to shoot her with a firearm in his possession. Authorities said that at some point Abarca shot through the window of the vehicle.
The victim complied with his request, leading him to her new place of residence in the 7700 block of Del Rosa Road in Phelan. While at the home he threatened her new boyfriend and took both the victim and their child against her will.
The new boyfriend reported the incident and provided the vehicle information. The information was relayed to all surrounding CHP and Sheriff’s stations. The vehicle was located as it entered the 15 freeway at Joshua Street. The deputy followed and requested backup. The vehicle was stopped on the 15 freeway, just south of the SR-138 overpass.
Abarca was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for kidnapping, false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting injury on a spouse or cohabitant, felon in possession of a firearm and criminal threats. He is being held in lieu of $250,000 bail.
