PHELAN – A 5-year-old girl sustained fatal injuries after being run over by a vehicle driven by her father on Sunday afternoon. CHP officials said that just before 2:25 p.m. the child and two of her siblings were riding in the back of a trailer packed with bales of hay in the 11000 block of Middleton Road in Phelan.
The father, drove the Chevrolet Tahoe with the trailer attached and began to back up. Just as he began backing up, the girl attempted to get off of the trailer and before her older sibling could grab her, she fell between the trailer and the Tahoe. Her father, not yet knowing she fell, continued backing up, and ran over the small girl.
One of the children called 911 to report the incident and reported that the child was not awake or breathing. The father immediately began to administer CPR and emergency medical personnel responded shortly after to take over. The child was rushed to Desert Valley Hospital in the City of Victorville where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
