Pilot Fire Grows to 7736 Acres Still 6% Contained

UPDATE: (7:30 a.m. 8-10-16):  Firefighters have made significant progress in the fight against the Pilot Fire. The fire did grow to 7861 acres, which calculates to slightly over 12 square miles. The containment is now 64%. The same evacuations remain in place and 1746 personnel are working on the fire at this time.

Another night passes, and the Pilot Fire still burns strong Tuesday evening. The good news is that all mandatory evacuations have been lifted for Hesperia residents due to wind pattern changes.

The Pilot fire that began at around 12:05 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2016, is now from most recent US Forest Service information as of Tuesday evening 7736 acres and only 6% contained.

Apple Valley, Hesperia and Oro Grande Unified School District Schools will remain closed on Wednesday, August 10th due to the unhealthful air quality. Apple Valley Unified School District schools, unless otherwise notified by district officials will resume on Thursday and be on an early release schedule for Thursday and Friday.

The Pacific Crest Trail remains closed from Deep Creek Hot Springs (3W02) to Lake Silverwood. The Miller Canyon Off-Road Vehicle (OHV) area remains closed. The air quality, according to the SCAQMD-South Coast Air Quality Management District the air quality remains unhealthy.  Anyone with health conditions, older adults and children should remain indoors when possible.

The Red Cross evacuation centers remain at Oak Hills High School located at 7625 Cataba Road, Oak Hills and at Rim of the World High School located at 27400 CA-18, Twin Peaks. No animals will be allowed at the Red Cross evacuation centers. Small and large animals should go to the Victorville Fairgrounds located at 14800 Seventh Street in the City of Victorville. Small animals must be in a crate.

There are currently, according to U.S. Forest Service officials 1475 personnel on scene including 41 Crews, 98 Engines, 14 Dozers,14 Water Tenders, 8 Helicopters, and 8 Air Tankers.

The community of Deer Lodge Park. Also included is Aleutian Drive, Klondike Drive, Evergreen Lane, Yukon Drive. Hwy 173 north and south from Hwy 138 to Arrowhead Lake Road, Arrowhead Lake Road to Hesperia Lakes Road

Voluntary Evacuations:

Hesperia

Areas east of Santa Fe Road, south of Ranchero Road to Arrowhead Lake Road, and north of the Spillway

Areas east of the Mojave River and south of Rock Springs Road to Kiowa Road

Lake Arrowhead

The community of Grass Valley Lake in addition to the area north of Peninsula and North Bay Roads to Hwy 173, and south of Hwy 173 from North Bay Road to Grass Valley Road

Road Closures:

CA-173 closed between SR-138 and Arrowhead Lake Road, Arrowhead Lake Road closed at Ranchero Road, CA-173 closed at North Bay Road, Grass Valley Road closed at Brentwood Drive
