HIGHLAND – The Highland Police need the public’s help to identify a suspect involved in the attempted robbery of a Wells Fargo bank inside the Food for Less at 26529 Highland Avenue.
Just after 6:45 on Tuesday evening the male suspect entered the store and went directly to the Wells Fargo Bank counter. According to Sheriff’s officials he then handed a note to the teller as he placed a box on the counter. The tell read the note that said that there was a bomb in the box and if she did not give him the money he would make it go off.
The teller immediately told a co-worker to call the police. The suspect pushed the box closer to the window and left the store. The police were called and all employees and customers were evacuated as a precaution. The package was determined to be safe by the Sheriff’s Bombs and Arson Division.
The suspect was wearing a dark long sleeve shirt, with a dark orange polo shirt over it with dark pants and shoes. He was also described as wearing a straw gardener’s style hat and was carrying a black and red messenger bag.
Anyone with any information regarding the incident or who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact the Highland Police Station Detective Bureau or Sheriff’s Dispatch at 909.387.8313.
