RANCHO CUCAMONGA – A 45-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested for the abuse of a 2-year-old boy on Sunday. Deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga station responded to San Antonio Regional hospital to investigate suspected child abuse after the young boy was taken in with large burns over his body.
The suspect, Jerry Villareal told hospital staff that the injuries were sustained days before, after the child was burned by boiling water from the stove. Villareal did not seek medical assistance for the child until days later when the severity of the injuries became more severe.
The toddler, who remains in critical condition, was airlifted to the burn unit in Northern California for a higher level of care officials said. Villareal was arrested in the 8400 Chaffey Street in Rancho Cucamonga and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for child abuse.
