RIVERSIDE – The Riverside Fire Department responded to a traffic collision with a 57-year-old man trapped in his vehicle on Saturday afternoon. At around 4:00 p.m. the City of Riverside Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Chief was returning from training when he went through the area of Van Buren and Orange Terrace Parkway and saw the collision.
The USR chief stopped to render aid and immediately requested additional resources, including AMR, CAL-Fire, Riverside CHP, Riverside Police. Firefighters from the Riverside Fire Department and CAL-Fire worked together to remove the man from the mangled vehicle.
Once extricated, the critically injured man was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries. The drive of the other vehicle was uninjured. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Riverside Police Department and the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
