San Bernardino Man Crashes Stolen Vehicle After Pursuit

SAN BERNARDINO – A 29-year-old man was arrested after a pursuit that ended in a crash early Monday. At around 12:10 a.m. in the area of Golden Avenue and Holly Vista Drive in the City of San Bernardino a deputy was conducting a routine patrol. He noticed a vehicle with a mechanical   malfunction and attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle continued on, causing the deputy to pursue.

A vehicle license plate record checks identified the vehicle as a vehicle stolen from the City of Fontana on Sunday, November 6, 2016. The driver, Anthony Martinez, a convicted felon with an extensive arrest history kept driving making several vehicle code violations. Martinez, showing a lack of concern for public safety, ran a red light slamming into a civilian vehicle at the Baseline and E Street intersection. The civilian vehicle then hit a building, but the driver was uninjured.

Martinez exited the vehicle and ran toward a nearby business with deputies pursuing on foot. He jumped on the roof attempting to flee but was quickly taken into custody. Martinez, who is also a documented gang member, was booked into the Central Detention Center for evading, possession of a stolen vehicle, and vehicle theft. He scheduled to appear at the San Bernardino Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon.
