Suspect Arrested in Murder of Bennett Warner Who Was Intentionally Hit by Truck

BARSTOW – The suspect who according to authorities intentionally hit a man with his truck and left him for dead on Monday afternoon has been located and arrested Barstow Police said. Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Main Street in Barstow for an unknown collision. The reporting party told police that the vehicle hit the man who was riding a bicycle after a heated argument and fled southbound on Muriel Drive.

When police and emergency personnel arrived they located Bennett Warner, 40, of Barstow suffering from serious injuries. Warner was rushed to Barstow Community Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. Police Searched for the suspect using the detailed suspect vehicle description and although they did not locate him, the suspect was identified as Raymundo Alberto Rodriguez-Cordova, 22, of Barstow.

Late Wednesday morning at around 10:32 a.m. a tip led officers to the suspect vehicle, that was in the desert area east of Stringham Park located in the 1600 block of Rimrock Road. Detectives responded to the area and found the vehicle, but Cordova was nowhere to be found. The scene was thoroughly processed and the area was searched for any sign of Cordova. The vehicle was transported to the Barstow Police Department for additional evidence processing.

On Thursday afternoon, at around 1:09 p.m. dispatchers received a call from a citizen who reported that a person with a matching description was inside of a business in the 25000 block of West Main Street. Officers and detectives responded to the area and located the subject and positively identified him as Raymundo Cordova. Cordova was placed under arrest and was booked into the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail for murder.
