VICTORVILLE – A Lucerne Valley man attempted to rob a Victorville Bank of America, Dollar Tree Store, then attempted to carjack a woman all within minutes of each other Thursday morning.
At around 9:18 a.m. deputies were dispatched to the bank located at 16990 Bear Valley Road. The reporting party said that the very thin build White male adult entered the bank and told everyone to get out. He remained inside, as did a bank manager. According to authorities he ran out without any cash and went toward the Dollar Tree Store located in the same shopping center at 12160 Hesperia Road.
He went inside the Dollar Tree store and told the employees that he had a gun and demanded that they open the register to give him the money. The suspect fled the store prior to collecting any cash from the store. The suspect then went towards the DD’s Discount store. “The suspect then got into the passenger side of a woman’s vehicle and demanded the car,” said San Bernardino County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman. “The victim refused and he got out of the car and ran away.”
While en route to the location, a deputy located the suspect, who was positively identified near Jasmine Street and Hesperia Road. The suspect, later identified as Mark Patrick Mangan, 33 of Lucerne Valley was arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for attempted robbery and attempted carjacking. He is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail.
