GRAND TERRACE – Grand Terrace residents have been the target of recent mailbox thefts. Deputies from the Grand Terrace Station investigated these crimes that have two separate victims who reported the theft of outgoing mail. The victims reported that they both had checks going out to various creditors that were stolen from their mailboxes.
Deputies soon learned that the stolen check amounts and payee information was changed on the checks with the payee being Christy Karen Leeper. Authorities said that two checks in the amount of $450 and $485 were cashed at the bank.
Transaction video was obtained identifying 32-year-old Colton resident, Christy Karen Cheek Leeper as the suspect who cashed the checks. The case has been submitted to the San Bernardino District Attorney’s office.
