Thirteen sex offenders were found to be out of compliance during pre-Halloween and Halloween compliance checks conducted by San Bernardino County Probation officers.
Although most of the 248 offenders who officers made contact with on Sunday, October 30, 2016, and on Monday, October 31, 2016, were in compliance the checks were deemed successful in helping to keep the streets safe for trick-or-treaters. “Community safety is the main goal of these yearly compliance operations,” said Supervising Probation officer Brady Lock of the department’s Sex Offender Unit. “We are out on Halloween to verify that these offenders are abiding by the terms and conditions and that neighborhoods are safe.”
One of the court-ordered terms and conditions for these offenders is that they are not to participate in Halloween or other activities that would entice children to come to their home. The officers checked to make sure that each home was dark, that there were no decorations outside of the home, and most importantly; that they did not pass out candy to trick-or-treaters. Prior to these compliance checks, offenders received a reminder from Sex Offender Unit probation officers of their court-ordered terms and that they may receive a visit from probation officers.
These visits took place throughout the Inland Empire; including the High Desert, Morongo Basin, Colorado River areas, and Mountain Communities. Those found to be out of compliance were arrested for probation violations, bench warrants, curfew violations, possession and/or consumption of alcohol, and drug possession officials said. Two were also arrested for possession of pornography and methamphetamine use.
