RIVERSIDE – A Correctional Officer at the Victorville Federal prison is facing 15 years in federal prison for sexually abusing female inmates.
Apolonio Gamez, 40, of Lake Elsinore a U.S. Bureau of Prisons (BOP) correctional officer was arrested on Thursday for the sexual abuse of two inmates The criminal complaint filed on Wednesday accused Gamez of one count of sexual abuse of an inmate on two occasions in September 2016, while on duty. Months later, on May 2017, he caught an inmate attempting to steal food from a storage facility. Gamez threatened the victim saying that she would be sent to the hold if she did not engage in sexual activity with him. The woman said that “she felt frozen and powerless with fear,” the affidavit said. During the summer of 2017, Gamez was also accused of exposing himself to a third inmate attempting to engage in a sexual act with her.
“Gamez has worked for the BOP at several California locations since August 2012. He has been assigned to the Victorville complex since July 2016,” Department of Justice officials stated in the news release.
