UPDATE: Many have asked 24/7 Headline News about a collection to help replace Allissa’s medical vest. Her family, in response to the gracious offers has started a Go Fund Me Account.
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. – A 14-year-old girl will have more of a struggle to breathe easy because a necessary medical device was stolen from her home during a burglary, Friday.
Most days Allissa looks just like any other healthy teen. She smiles a lot, and she really lives life to the fullest. Her parents have been in and out of hospitals with her throughout her life. Allissa has learned to make the best even of long hospital stays and numerous surgeries for her Cystic Fibrosis.
Cystic Fibrosis, a terminal, progressive, and incurable genetic disease. Cystic Fibrosis causes a thick mucus to build up in her lungs, making it very difficult for her to breath. Her Respirtech InCourage Airway Clearance Vest machine helps to loosen the mucus so that she is able to take deep breaths. “Without this machine, her life expectancy and quality of life are greatly diminished,” said Allissa’s mother, Mary.
On July 12, 2019, Allissa’s home was broken into. A lot of items of value were stolen; including laptops, passports, but most importantly the medical vest that she needs to help her breathe. Her parents are begging for the machine back. “I can only imagine that they stole it in hopes that they could sell or pawn it,” Mary added. “It’s a unique machine in a black rolling case, it’s a heavy and useless piece of equipment to anyone that doesn’t have Cystic Fibrosis, it will cost about $10,000 to replace this priceless medical equipment.” Mary said that she will attempt to get a replacement from the insurance on Monday.
Allissa’s parents would like everyone to share the information so that everyone knows where this stolen vest came from and it can not be sold. They are also hoping that the thief finds it in their heart to somehow get the vest back to them.
