PHELAN – Deputies are attempting to identify the owner of a large amount of ammunition located in the desert last week.
On Monday, December 4, 2017, a civilian in the area of Beekly Road in Phelan noticed the ground disturbed. After further inspection of the area, he located and reported what was later found to be five green ammo cans and four brown cardboard boxes filled with over 1900 rounds of ammunition buried in the area. Authorities said that the green cans have white stickers with blue writing on them. The writing on them includes the caliber inside of the cans. Various caliber sizes of Winchester, Federal, American Eagle and HSM.
