BARSTOW – A Barstow man who was arrested on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, for being getaway driver during an armed robbery was sentenced to 20 days in jail.
Chris Harris Jr., 24, of Barstow, was arrested after he, and Nathaniel Mansfield Jr., 33, of Apple Valley, followed a woman from Walmart in Barstow to a shopping center in the 1200 block of East Main Street to rob her. Through investigation, it was learned that Harris and Mansfield were at the Walmart and witnessed the victim cashing her check. The female victim then placed the money inside her wallet before leaving the store.
The two followed the woman to the shopping center parking lot and Mansfield approached the woman who was sitting in the vehicle. With a handgun in-hand Mansfield demanded her wallet. The woman handed over her wallet and Mansfield then fled the shopping center to the getaway vehicle, driven by Harris. An area search was conducted but the suspects were not immediately located.
The suspect vehicle, which belonged to Harris was located at a nearby apartment complex where it was seized and stored at a local tow yard. On Friday, September 24, 2018, Harris went to the tow yard in the 2200 block of West Main Street attempting to get property that was inside his vehicle. Officers were informed that Harris was at the tow yard and responded to arrest him.
Harris pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Robbery as part of a plea deal. He was sentenced to 20 days in jail, with credit for his actual time served of 10 days. He will serve the remaining 10 days at a credit rate of 50%. In addition to the 20-day sentence, Harris will remain on felony probation for a period of three years.
Mansfield was arrested on Thursday, September 27, 2018, in the 700 block of East Virginia Way. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and is scheduled to return to the Victorville Superior Court on Tuesday, October 9, 2018.
