RIVERSIDE – A Riverside man and woman were arrested for mail theft in the early-morning hours of Friday, November 18, 2016. At around 1:00 a.m. officers were dispatched to the Canyon Crest neighborhood near Rycoft and Tiffany Drives for the report of a suspicious person.
When the officer arrived they located a woman, identified as Angela Vandiver, 37, walking in the area. Vandiver was found to be in possession of mail that did not belong to her. Soon after a man, identified as Johnny Gibbs, 37, whose vehicle contained more mail. The mail included the names of 21 victims.
Police determined that Gibbs was on probation for weapons violations and Vandiver was on probation for identity theft. Gibbs and Vandiver were arrested and booked into jail for mail and identity theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of stolen property and probation violations.
The Riverside Police Department officials encourage the community to remain aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity. In addition to watching for suspicious activity, removing items from the mailbox as soon as possibly will lessen your risk of becoming a victim to mail/identity theft.
