PALMDALE, Calif. – Authorities suspect that marijuana may have played a role in the fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Wednesday night.
On July 24, 2019, at around 10:22 p.m., Palmdale station deputies responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Rancho Vista Boulevard and Avenue O-8. Through preliminary investigation it was learned that the 2012 Toyota Yaris, which was driven by a 29-year-old man was driving eastbound on Rancho Vista Boulevard. A 27-year-old man was crossing from the south to north side of Rancho Vista Boulevard at the same time. It is believed that the pedestrian was crossing the street outside of the crosswalk and against the red traffic light.
The pedestrian was transported to Antelope Valley Hospital but despite lifesaving measures, he died as a result of his injuries. Authorities suspect that the driver may have been under the influence of marijuana at the time of the collision but are pending toxicology results.
