Former Military Police Officer Sentenced for Sex with 11-year-old Girl

BARSTOW – A former Military Police Officer with U.S. Marines Corp. was sentenced to 3 years behind bars for having sex with an 11-year-old girl. Jeffrey Tyler Minter, of Newberry Springs, pleaded guilty to one count of Lewd or Lascivious Acts with a Child, February 7, 2018. At the Victorville Superior Court on Friday, May 4, 2018, he was sentenced to three years in prison.

Minter was arrested on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, just days after the mother of the small child reported the sexual abuse to authorities. He was 31-years-old at the time of the 2017 arrest. Authorities said that the child reported meeting Minter on an adult dating site and subsequently met with him in January 2017. The victim told authorities that she was picked up from her home and Minter took her to a motel room where they had sexual intercourse. Detectives gathered evidence that supported the victim’s statements and arrested Minter on the 500 block of Melissa Avenue in Barstow.

In the original 24/7 Headline News report, it was reported that Minter worked as an enlisted military police officer, a civilian marine corps. police officer, and most recently a civilian marine corps. security officer. Minter will be credited for 465 days of time served plus 70 days of conduct credit, for a total of approximately 18 months.  He will be required to serve 85% of the time sentenced. Minter will be required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
