EL MIRAGE, Calif. – General Atomics has broke ground on their $40 million El Mirage facility. The facility broke ground on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 and when finished, will have a 150,000-square-foot complex of buildings, which includes a 120,754 -square-foot hangar.
Construction on this massive project will be using 150 contractors over an approximate 12-month period, San Bernardino First District officials said. Upon completion, the facility will hire between 30 and 45 new employees; and later around 200 more. This is in addition to the 2,000 people who are currently employed by the General Atomics’ El Mirage location.
“I’d like to thank Supervisor Lovingood and the team at the County for all their hard work in securing the (conditional use permits),” said Dennis Garegnani, vice president of facilities. “We definitely had to work through some challenges. We really appreciate the help.”
As many know, General Atomics is an innovative company who manufactured a unmanned aerial vehicle deployed around the world.
