Fontana, Calif.– From jumping jacks to the much-anticipated SoCal WCMX Showdown North American Championships, get ready to “Get Fit” with the Community Services Department in celebration of Family Health & Fitness Day on Saturday, June 8, 2019.
Healthy Fontana is teaming up with SoCal WCMX (Wheel Chair Moto Cross) for the Showdown North American Championships on Saturday, June 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Jack Bulik Skatepark (16581 Filbert St.). Watch competitors compete among the greatest of WCMX and adaptive skaters. WCMX consists of participants utilizing fabricated wheelchairs to perform technical maneuvers at skate parks.
This free event spans two days (Friday and Saturday) and includes resources and activities such as Healthy Fontana, a clinic, trick contest, competitions, and more. Healthy Fontana is leading the challenge to complete a minute of jumping jacks at the WCMX Showdown on Saturday around noon. For more information about the event, visit www.worldwcmx.org.
Family Health & Fitness Day is celebrated the second Saturday of June, and is organized by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA). The initiative promotes the importance of local parks and recreation, and the role the departments play in keeping communities healthy.
NRPA encourages everyone to “Get Fit” With Parks and Recreation, or Community Services, by participating in the day’s challenge and do a minute of jumping jacks (regular or modified) with family and/or friends at a local park or recreation center. Everyone can also participate in one of NRPA’s Top Five Ways to “Get Fit” with Community Services:
- Take a walk
- Go for a swim
- Enroll in a fitness program
- Create your own exercise routine
- Play outside
Participants are encouraged to share photos and videos online using #HealthyFontana and #NRPAFamilyFitDay. To learn more about Family Health & Fitness Day, visit www.nrpa.org/familyfitness.
