BARSTOW-A Man has been arrested for purposely hitting, and killing a Lenwood man with his vehicle.
On Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at around 9:52 p.m., officers with the California Highway Patrol received reports of a vehicle vs. pedestrian collision. CHP Officers arrived at the 25000 block of W. Main Street in the City of Lenwood. Once on the scene, CHP officers discerned that this was an assault with a vehicle and contacted the Barstow Station Sheriff’s Department to conduct a full investigation.
The suspect identified as 50-year-old, Abelarado Reyes Jaramillo, a resident of Barstow fled from the scene of the collision. The victim identified as Larry Tortes, a 35-year-old, a resident of Barstow was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on June 16, 2017, at 3:19 a.m.
Homicide Investigators ascertained that the cause of the incident was due to an argument that escalated into a fight. Jaramillo purposely hit Tortes with his vehicle and fled the scene.
On June 16, 2017, Jaramillo was taken into custody by a Specialized Enforcement Detail in the City of Barstow. Investigators are continuing to investigate this incident.
