PHELAN – The San Bernardino County Coroner’s officer released the name of the man killed in the Sunday morning SR-138 crash. At approximately 5:00 a.m. Mario Bahena, 26, of Fontana was driving a 1997 Mercedes-Benz eastbound near Centola Road.
For reasons that remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, his vehicle traveled into westbound lanes, striking a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado head on. Bahena was pronounced dead at the scene at around 5:28 a.m. The passenger in the Mercedes and the driver of the Silverado were transported to a local hospital to be treated for moderate injuries.
A friend of Bahena described him as a very good man, who was nice to be around, and who always saw the good in everyone. Bahena leaves behind two young daughters, family, and friends who all loved him very much .
