HIGHLAND – A 43-year-old homeless man was arrested late Wednesday morning after leading police on a reckless pursuit, officials said. Just before 11:40 a.m. deputies from the Highland Station responded to the area of Baseline and the 210 freeway for the report of a stolen vehicle that was located at a business.
When deputies arrived, the suspect later identified as Shawn Rash fled the scene in the vehicle. Deputies followed and the Rash failed to yield. During the pursuit, which traveled through the City of Redlands, the Rash “drove into oncoming traffic, threw narcotics out the window and appeared to point something at the deputies”, officials said in the news release.
A successful P.I.T Maneuver was initiated near Pioneer and Pummelo Streets stopping the vehicle but suspect Rash fled on foot. Deputies were quickly able to take him into custody. Rash was booked into the Central Detention Center, where he was later found to be in possession of an ounce of methamphetamine, which authorities said that was hidden in his body.
Rash is being held in lieu $100,000 bail and is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on Friday afternoon at the San Bernardino Superior Court.
